Let's get started! So i know, first hand, that being a teen mom is extremely difficult. There is a lot of obstacles that we have to over come in becoming a first time mom period. Being a mom and being a teenager was the toughest part of my life. There's a lot of different things we go threw. From having random people staring at you left and right, to sometimes having your own teachers, "friends" and family members judging you. I don't condone teen pregnancy at all, i probably sound like a hippacrit, but going threw it, i would never wish this to anyone. Its so hard, and now being older and having child #3 i look back and see that i didn't really get to enjoy my 1st baby, due to work and school. Don't get me wrong i LOVE my daughter, but back then, i wish i waited. So I'd like to share my past experiences as a teen mom.
When and how i found out i was pregnant.
I was only 17 when i found out i was pregnant, the moment when i found out felt unreal. I remember that i was a sophomore in high school. I wasn't a popular girl, had a few friends here and there, played soccer in and out of school. I pretty much was a typical girl, until i got pregnant, my life changed forever. I remember this day like if it was yesterday. I was playing a soccer game that night, i played forward and i specifically remember that i couldn't finish the game, typically i would play my full game and sometimes two games a day, but that day i couldn't even finish one half. i knew something was up, i just knew. the next day i went to buy 2 pregnancy tests, i took one after school and took one at home. they both said positive. i was shocked. i never thought this would ever happen to me!! i didn't know what i was going to do. i was a child, only17, i was still going to high school, living at my parents house, working at subway with minimum wage and had no reliable car. I was overwhelmed with fear but happiness as well.
When did i tell my parents.
This was tough. i didn't know how and when i was going to tell them. At the time i was already 4months pregnant. I hid my pregnancy for about 2 months until i told the first person, who was my aunt that lived next door. I asked her to go with me to tell my parents, so she did. I disappointed my parents very much, i saw it in their face. It was very embersaring, i was disspoainted of myself. The only thing they said to me was," I don't care how you're going to do it, but you're finishing High School".
What i did to overcome all the obstacles.
I knew i had to graduate high school. I was able to graduate on time, with my hard work and long nights at school. It was tough, but i did it! i had a very judgmental family, they were very disappointed in me, they had no hopes for my future. To make this short, i pretty much had no one to help me. I worked hard every day for my daughter. I knew that i wasn't going anywhere with ought my education.School and working helped me out a lot. Another thing that helped me was staying positive, my daughters father wasn't in the picture as much as i thought he should, so i had to take full responsibility on my own.

- Relax and Stay positive! You're going to be ok! Everything will work out! You're pregnant, you're caring a beautiful baby! Even after everything you're going threw try to relax. A warm bath at night, turn on some candles, dim the lights, talk to your baby, read a book, listen to music or work out. This can really help you to relax and stay positive
- Inform yourself with any free resources they offer in your community, you'll be surprised what you'll find! Parenting Clases, Child Care Assistance, this can all help you while you attend school or work.
- Talk to someone, don't isolate yourself from everyone. It can be your neighbor, a therapist ( some can be covered by your insurance ). Trust me, i was skeptical in going to therapy, but it helps letting everything out, just having someone listening to you is very therapeutic.
- Use having a baby as a motivation to thrive, not as an excuse on something you always wished to do. Think about what you wanted to do before your baby, go after it twice as hard, because now you have two to care for.
- Try your best to finish school. Yes there will be days that you don't see your baby for hours a day, but it will all be worth it when you graduate. it is very difficult to get a job with ought a high school diploma. It will help you and your baby in the long run, trust me.
